2014-2015 Super Hero's theme

The summer is over and it is time for a new theme. I was not real sure about this theme until I started searching around online. It was a lot of fun and I believe the children will love it.
This is our "Bat Cave". I will add a small mirror next to the emotion poster. This is a place children can go to calm down.
Our jobs and Birthdays (pictures of children will be added this week)
Our library (will add pillows) and H.E.R.O. binder pockets.
Listening center w/ head phones in desk.
This is our Science/Math/Computer area. The places on the wall will hold the children's science work.
This is our circle time area.
Here is our main board. I need to add our ten frames for making the number of the day.
Kelso's choices wheel and S.M.A.R.T. rules.
Daily 5 and Daily 3 together.
Cabinet area, children's art work will cover the doors.
At last, our classroom door.

Travel Journal

Throughout this year my kiddos have "traveled" around the world. We have tried different foods, made hats,  learned about important places and people. A few items were saved to make a travel journal for Graduation this year. Next year I believe we will save more and add photographs.

A lot has happened since March...

Summer Camp is here! We are going to travel around the islands! Below are pictures of our classroom decorations. We have a few missing parts that will appear on Monday, but for the most part we are finished. I hope the kiddos like the shark!

We turned our library into a Reading Hut. I hope to add a few fun pillows over the next few days.
Next to the Reading Hut is our window waterfall and volcano.
This is the Mighty Shark Cruise ship, we are missing an anchor and port holes, they will appear soon!
You can not forget a nice view of a sunset by the beach to make the trip complete.
This summer is going to be a lot of fun!

Dr. Seuss Pep Rally

I realized while looking through my pictures I needed to get close ups of the children's t-shirts. Each classroom had their own color to tie dye t-shirts and decorate for this Pep Rally. Our classroom had light blue. I used rubber bands to make strips and we made hand print Thing 1 & Thing 2 on the front. There were so many creative ideas for the t-shirts. One class did Sneetches inspired shirts while another class did Horten the elephant inspired shirts. I will try to get some close ups next week so you can see all the detail that was put into them.
Now I bet you are wondering how to have a Pep Rally for young children. We do a lot of cheering, music, and dancing. Oh, and don't forget the silly string that was sprayed into the air! A few classrooms had special songs they wanted to sing. One two year old class did "The Wheels on the Bus" and another sang w/ hand movements "Head, shoulders, knees, and toes". My class did the "Harlem Shake", which was so much fun even when our lead dancer became a little shy at first. The K-1 class did a rhyming rap with three awesome "break dancers". We have student nurses who come to our school twice a week right now to learn more about young children's development. They thought they would watch, but at our school you have to participate!!! I have a few pictures to share of them, one who did a great job doing the "worm".

This is the end of our Pep Rally when everyone was dancing.

Love how the student nurses jump right in and started dancing. The children thought that was very cool!

Dr. Seuss Family Literacy Night

Our annual Dr. Seuss Family Literacy Night was a huge success! We had tacos in the cafeteria and Cat in the Hat along with Thing 1 and Thing 2 greeting the children. Each classroom had activities set up and a "fishing for books" at the end for each child to go home with a free book. The Scholastic book fair was going on the whole time.
Lorax tree cup cakes were a big hit with everyone!
One of the Pre-K room's "fishing for a book"

Our two fundraisers for the Kinder graduation.
Book Fair/Classroom Wish List was a great success! Many Thank You's to all the families who helped us grow our classroom libraries.
 Measuring Hats.
 Matching rhyming pictures.

Cat in the Hat came by for a visit.
"Fishing for Books" in our classroom. I love sending each child home with a free book!!
One of our activities, trying green eggs and adding their name to our graph.
Sorting and counting "fish" (M & M's taste so much better than fish!;P)
Tracing and measuring his foot with cubes.
Lots of Dr. Seuss books to read together.

We had an estimation jar in my room along with four door prizes (more books, pencils and book marks). Not pictured is our -at family word Cat in the Hat, hats. So many people and so much fun, making connections between school and home is so important for all relationships. I feel so much closer to my kids and their families. I really love Dr. Seuss week!!!

More Dr. Seuss

I am using the same tri folders I created last year for our Dr. Seuss Family Literacy Night. I left some space at the bottom middle of a few boards so I can set up supplies needed without covering up information on the board. I'll take more pictures the night of, so you can see the actual set up.
We have worked on the at family words, so making this hat is really fun and easy for my kiddos.
Here the children will trace their foot, measure with cubes, and decorate.
Here is our Cat and the Hat snack. A vanilla wafer, a large marshmallow using frosting to holding it in place, and a few pieces of Twizzlers for the red stripes.
I have used the color Pepperridge Farms color fish in the past but they have change their colors, so , now I use M&M's as our "fish".  I am not sure which site I pulled the worksheet for this activity from. I will try to find it so I can share.

Last year I made deviled eggs with green yolk, the children would not try them.  This year I am making green egg cookies.

Here is our classroom wish list board before the teacher's added their selections. The cute boxes decorated Dr. Seuss style will hold the books donated by the families.

Dr.Seuss

It's Dr.Seuss time again! I am so excited about this time of year. I don't know if it's because spring is just around the corner or my kiddos are blending letter sounds on their own but it's a very exciting time
This is my classroom's art work.
This is outside our Kinder classroom.
This is the hallway to the 3's, 4's, and Kinder classrooms.

This is the end of the hallway by the Kinder classroom.

 The 3's and 4's hallway.
 Door to the computer room.

 This is by the gym.

The Scholastic Book Fair will be held in the Computer Room.
The inside doors to our school.
 The front office.

Our school goes Dr. Seuss crazy for a week and end with a Dr. Seuss Family Literacy Night and pep rally. It started 5 years ago with one classroom and has turned into a whole school event. We have added a scholastic book fair to run the whole week. If we reach our book fair goal the front office will put on a "rock show" for the children during our pep rally on Friday! How exciting! I have pictures to show what we have done so far with decorating. I will add activities and event pictures later on next week.
